A. Chandraker et al. (eds.), Core Concepts in Renal Transplantation, DOI 10.1007/978-1-4614-0008-0_2, © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2012 Abstract Predicting humoral alloimmune potential in transplant recipients is the objective of histocompatibility testing and depends upon accurate donor typing and sensitive and specifi c testing for antibodies to human leukocyte antigen. This review for the transplant clinician will describe the evolution and current widespread practices of histocompatibility testing methods for typing, crossmatching, and antibody screening. Newer methods such as measuring T cell alloimmune potential will not be discussed as they are beyond the scope of this basic overview and are not routinely practiced in all histocompatibility laboratories at this time. Emphasis is given to the clinical applicability and limitations of each test, and the collective consideration of all tests in concert, as part of the immunologic risk assessment of the solid organ transplant recipient.

Simulation of Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) Structure and Peptide Loading into an MHC Binding Pocket with Teachers’Hands
Molecular understanding of three-dimensional (3D) peptide: MHC models require both basic knowledge of computational modeling and skilled visual perception, which are not possessed by all students. The present model aims to simulate MHC molecular structure with the hands and make a profound impression on the students.

Background and purpose: Major histocompatibility antigens are the most polymorphic components of the immune system. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of human leukocyte antigens (HLA) in a population in Mazandaran province, Iran. Materials and methods: In a cross sectional study, peripheral blood samples were obtained from 550 people in Immunogenetics Research Center af...

Bioluminescence is a ubiquitous imaging modality for visualizing biological processes in vivo. This technique employs visible light and interfaces readily with most cell and tissue types, making it a versatile technology for preclinical studies. Here we review basic bioluminescence imaging principles, along with applications of the technology that are relevant to the medicinal chemistry communi...
متن کاملDefinitions of histocompatibility typing terms.
Histocompatibility testing for stem cell and solid organ transplantation has become increasingly complex as newly discovered HLA alleles are described. HLA typing assignments reported by laboratories are used by physicians and donor registries for matching donors and recipients. To communicate effectively, a common language for histocompatibility terms should be established. In early 2010, repr...
متن کاملOverview on HLA and DNA typing methods
The term HLA refers to the Human Leukocyte Antigen System, which is controlled by genes on the short arm of chromosome six. The HLA loci are part of the genetic region known as the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The MHC has genes (including HLA) that form part of the normal function of the immune response. The essential role of the HLA antigens lies in the control of self-recognition a...
